Help us improve our products. Sign up to take part. A Nature Research Journal. What, another three books on Einstein? As a refreshing change, The Meaning of Relativity , Special Relativity and Einstein deal exclusively with science. All three are valuable additions to the Einstein canon.
The Meaning of Relativity , the master's own presentation based on lectures given at Princeton University in , reappears in a reprinting of the final edition, which included as an appendix his parting thoughts on his last abortive bid to unify the gravitational and electromagnetic forces. Not too much should be made of this; Einstein was always sparing with references this entire book has just one.
Yet one cannot help wondering: could it have slipped his mind that he had been down this path before? Central Library Borrow it.

Any subtleties are so utterly defeated by the public mythology surrounding the man, however, that the traditional incantations continue to be repeated by journalists and scientists alike.

True enough in at least one case, but the fact is that Einstein often made mistakes that were just mistakes. Another pedestal of Einstein lore is that he developed relativity while remaining unaware of the scientific developments of his time. The centennial crop of books also seems designed less to challenge than to celebrate.
For each paper Rigden presents sound scientific explanations, as well as a discussion of the historical context and the reaction of the scientific community. But this is not entirely the case.
