Domo arigato, Mr. I wrote a superhero book. Then I watched The Boys. My first reaction: not happy. My second reaction: joy! His sidekicks just found his body. Who will die next? Feeling empty, listless, bored? You may be suffering from Post-Endgame Syndrome. Save the day? Sure — as soon as school lets out. After all, where better to learn to be a hero than a school full of supers? Who killed Criterion?

And perhaps the biggest question of all… Who is Bounty? Beautiful because it's so honest, and ugly for precisely the same reason. Josh tells his life story with lively prose that explores the paradox of human splendor and wretchedness while dangling hints of redemption.

Like I said before, the book is an easy read, but contains much depth. The book is a memoir of sorts with Josh telling the story of many important moments in his life. There are moments of pure fantasy, such as when a cow visits Josh and they converse in his living room. While many will read these sections as well as many sections containing Jack as purely allegorical, I believe that is a misreading of these sections.

An Analysis of the Many Facets of Life in the Book Heroes and Monsters by Josh James Riebock

For Josh, I believe he is writing these things as he experienced him. For Josh, the spiritual world is real and vivid. G-d is not some character in outer space that just watches as we live our lives. Instead, it is the exact opposite.

While in a cornfield, Jack shows up to tell Josh that he is not alone, nor will he ever be. Throughout the rest of the book, Josh comes to find out more and more about Jack. He sees how the difficulties in our lives happen, but that we are not alone in any of those moments.

    Whether we are falling apart on the bathroom floor of a hospital, or falling in love under the stars after a first date, we are never alone. After reading the book, you will feel as if Josh is your best friend.
